Hello All,

Here at Lehigh University we are preparing for the return of our
students in a few weeks. We are anticipating that a great many of them
will be returning with new PCs with Windows XP installed. The version
of XP that they will most likely have installed is the home version.

At Lehigh we have a Novell network that our students have access to.
Novell has stated that the Home version of XP is not supported for use
with their client software. From everything we've read or seen the home
version does not allow access to a domain or active directory either.

We provide many services to our students via our LAN
(applications/printing) so this could potentially be a very big problem
for us. We're trying to get the word out that only the Professional
version should be brought to campus. But with the home version being
cheaper and more readily available I still think we are going to see
quite a few students bring PCs that cannot get LAN access.

I was wondering how other schools are planning on dealing with this.

Bruce
