About the WinME machine having problems...

At Pittsburg State, we have seen like 15 or so of these since the semester started. We were seeing that computers could get an IP from the DHCP, but could not get any type of network activity. We have seen this on Win 95, 98, and ME...none with NT, 2000, or XP.

We discovered that running msconfig and disabling "hdsrve" or "hdsrv" cleared the problem up and everything runs fine. We did see another entry that was causing the same problem, but that has been too long ago for anyone to remember what the entry was...sorry. Just look for things in the StartUp that look
out of place and you may have some candidates.

I have beat my head against a wall now for several weeks trying to find what this program is, but can not find a legit program that enters this in the start up items.

You might try disabling everything in the msconfig StartUp tab and see if it works. If it does, it is something that is starting up.

Not sure if this is what you are having problems with, but you might check it before reinstalling the OS.

I hope that this helps you out.

Brad Fleming
