Having clients forced to a worse signal strength with bandsteering was my biggest
issue with it as it seems to be all or nothing. However, it is essentially the
reverse of what is happening now with some clients. Clients are choosing the
2.4GHz which is obviously penetrating better than the 5GHz in most locations
(even though the 5 is still acceptable) but due to interference and whatnot, they
have a worst experience than had the client chose the weaker signal strength.
This happens a lot with our Mac users.
But I do agree that I would rather not have to use technical labels and hope
students make the right choice....
Neil: what did you end up doing with your Meru environment when bandsteering
didn't work? How long ago was this....ie, do you remember what firmware your
controller was running?
