Here is a response I received from one of my coworkers.

Feel free to contact me off list if you need more information.

Brian,

You could easily network your doors for half the price of the low price you mentioned below if you do it "in house."
I came from the Access Control department here at Liberty University and we did and still do most of the work ourselves. We have 500+ card readers that are networked all over campus.

I am sure you have some technicians and maintenance guys on staff. If you need some free consulting we would love to come out and visit for the day.

Otherwise please feel free to contact me for further information.

Subject: offline ID card access systems

Hi all,

We use a product from Stanley called BEST for door access. The system is offline meaning the locks on the doors are not wired to our network and we only use it on one dorm (because frankly, it is a real pain). Any suggestions out there for another offline (guest) replacement application OR is there an easy way to hook these doors up to the network since we do have the S2 online system for other areas of campus.
Back about 5-6 years ago we were told it would cost $3,000 - $5,000 per door to wire them to the network.... has anything changed since then?

Thanks :-)
