I enabled the following two GP settings for our IT folks back when we were migrating to Windows 7:
Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > Remote Assistance > Solicited Remote Assistance
Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > Remote Assistance > Offer Remote Assistance
For the second one, I then specified which users could perform this action (i.e., select IT staff). I think when I tried to specify a group (i.e., Domain Admins, for example) it did not work properly, so I just put the individual user accounts in the list instead. In our case, that was good enough, as our list of IT staff that needs this enabled is pretty short and there's very little turnover, so this has not caused me any extra work to maintain.
That was all I had to do, and it works fine. Oh, and all of our DCs are definitely 2008R2.
We are also using LANDesk, which has its own Remote Assistance tool, as well as Webex, which can be used the same way.

Yes, we are offering remote assistance from Windows 7 machines. There is a GPO in place that enables the ability for the machine to receive the offer and adds our support group to the "Offer Remote Assistance"
group on the local machine. The only difficulties we've had come from technicians forgetting to place computers in the proper OU to get the settings (we have separate OUs for departments).
I'm pretty sure that our domain controllers are running 2008R2.
