Thanks, Chuck. We've been able to use group policies for a number of our configurations. That gets messier, though, when there are user policies you only want applicable on certain computers and other user policies you only want applicable on other computers. Between loop backs and simply the gross multiplication of GPO's it can get pretty spidery in our experience.
The copying strategy has seemed glitch at best in Win 7.

Others will probably mention ways that you can copy a profile to the default user profile as was done with XP. We have decided to invest time in using group policies to control the user experience in labs.
This isn't always easy but we have found few things that can't be set with this method. In the few cases where we can't use group policy we have made the necessary changes to the c:\users\default\ntuser.dat registry or the appropriate files in the default profile.
