Hi Everyone,
We are considering dropping Symantec Endpoint for our students and
recommending MS Security Essentials for the next academic year. For Windows
users this is not a problem but for Mac users it creates a slight dilemma for us.
Our official policy is that students should be using some type of Antivirus software
on their personal computers. We don't enforce this as a requirement but rather
just strongly recommend on our websites and documentation.

For Macs our experience has shown that viruses/malware are currently not a
problem and that the antivirus software is for the most part unnecessary. But we
still had the Mac version of Symantec Endpoint for those Mac users who wanted
it. We are hesitant to say that Macs don't need antivirus software and perhaps
give them a false sense that they are invulnerable to security attacks.

For those schools who did switch to Security Essentials I was wondering what
kind of recommendations do you give to your Mac users?

Thanks
