We worked with a consultant who wrote the RFP for us. If you are =
interested, I can give you his name. He was tremendous.
After looking at 5 VoIP vendors we chose Siemens HiPath 4000. We did not =
look at open source. We have over 1700 phones, 2 VOIP servers (1 for a =
redundant backup in the event of a failure) 1 Voice-Mail server. We still =
have a few analog lines on campus that use VoIP converters. The reasons =
why we went the VoIP route are the following:

Lease was coming up on Centrex system.
Maintenance was coming due with our local telephone vendor.
Cost of Centrex system was increasing.
Just replaced networking infrastructure with switches (Enterasys) that had =
QOS.
We basically did a forklift upgrade. We selected our VoIP vendor in April =
of 2006 and cut over in August 2006. The implementation was great. =
Siemens project management was outstanding throughout the entire process. =
We had a few bumps along the way, but nothing that slowed the implementatio=
n. We met with Siemens every week after the cut over to address any =
additional issues. It was a very positive experience for the university. =
