Chris,
SoftPerfect Network Scanner is my favorite IP scanner. It will scan a subn=
et for every IP device, and if your computer is in the same subnet, it will=
record the devices MAC address and lookup the NIC vendor. This should giv=
e you an idea of what type of device it is. It will also resolve device ho=
stnames and scan the device for open ports. If you are scanning computers =
on your Active Directory domain, then you can provide a username/password a=
nd the scanner will report the logged on user, OS version, shared folders/p=
rinters and more.

Subject: Anyone know of a tool that....
I'm looking for a tool that can scan a wireless IP subnet and identify devi=
ces, not only PCs and Macs, but iphones, ipods, ipads, android devices, etc=
. I'm having a real problem with some devices and my firewall, and it seem=
s the IP addresses always seem to come back to iphones and ipods. I'd like=
to be able to scan the wireless and see if I can identify the specific pho=
nes/pods that are causing the problem and what it is they are trying to do.
I have a number of scanners that identify computers, but nothing that disco=
vers consumer devices. Any ideas?
Many Thanks.
Chris
