Do they not include the first/last name of the configured user? Even for userIDs that are not opaque, i.e. 8 characters like jsmith01, you won't always be able to decipher the user. Any calendar program I've used has included at least the first/last name of the user so you don't have to worry about deciphering the userID.
Not really an answer, but something to consider.

Subject: google apps for edu with non-obvious account names
Hi all,
We use opaque user names here (ex: w00005414) and we give everyone an
email alias of lastname_firstname. It is not an issue with our current
email and calendaring systems but we are being asked to research Google
Apps and the not-so-obvious username is creating issues.... especially
with calendar invites (we figured out the email side). People do not
know what to do when they receive a calendar invite from
"w00005414@wheatoncollege.edu"
We talked to Google about this and they said there is no way to change
the calendar owner setting within your calendar.
How are people dealing with this?
