300 to 1 - Managing Multiple Mac Labs
Macs and Mac product lines are booming in the consumer world and with that we are finding many students are coming into our university with their own Apple hardware. As an institution, we try to cater to what students are familiar with for a typical lab environment, but students are not the only use case. Faculty is also diving into Mac OS based research, specialized and statistical applications for their needs, creating a demand for information technology departments to customize computer labs in order to accommodate them.
There are many tools out there that assist in managing a multiple Mac OS lab environment. This introductory hands-on workshop offers a chance to dive into some of these tools and acquire a few tips and tricks on how they will greatly assist in Mac lab management. The workshop will cover:
* Apple Remote Desktop - Understanding the basics of its capabilities, looking at how to organize Mac computers, learning how to remotely install applications, create custom UNIX commands to increase speed and ease of Mac management, and what Automator has to offer in Apple Remote Desktop.
* Deploy Studio - Learn how to set up a Deploy Studio server, and explore how to customize work flows to meet lab needs.
You will find that with the tools, you have the power to manage hundreds!
