Using Uni email address this time :-)
We hit the same problem here so we rolled out 802.1x / Mac auth
( fairly easy to do with HP kit) 802.1x authenticated devices sit on a
"user" vlan, mac auth games consoles sit on a "Games" vlan. Simple web
page that the user has to log into with their uni account has 1 field
that student enters the mac address of their games console into
registers it in a back end mysql database. RADIUS server does either
EAP whatever for 802.1x or mac auth depending on what's in the Access-
Request packet that comes from the switch.
Use the same setup for dropping other non 802.1x kit onto different
vlans in other areas of the campus for non 802.1x devices
