For us it *is* an important issue, as we do rely on student employees for
much of our front-line triage and service.
We have a specific cost-center in our budget for student employment. That
said, our annual budget requests reflect the staffing needs for our student
employee shifts and coverage. While Berklee likes to think of how many
student "positions" we have or need (and I can translate to that), I approach it
from the standpoint of how many slots that need to be filled, for example.
6 student support "slots" x 40 hrs/week coverage * 51 weeks/yr * $9.25/hr =
the budget request/need in $$. Scheduling into that coverage (15
hours/week max for the student employees) is a separate process.
