While it might not work for your particular uses, a while ago I ordered a pair of shelving units from IKEA and ordered a whole lot of extra shelves. For my purposes I wanted 4 or 5 inch openings, and a lot of them. It has worked out great to hold the large bunch of laptops that I needed to house in it, along with enough room for the power supplies to go in with almost every laptop. I made some of the cubby-holes taller than others, so there is some extra large ones that will take the big "desktop replacement" units that were sold some years ago.
I didn't bother with doors at all, but if you are only looking for speed-bump security that might work for you.
