Do ya'll also offer a turn-down service at night? Just kidding!

We don't supply these things in our residential computer labs but I can pro=
bably guess that they are provided at the residence hall front desks. The =
front desks are staffed 24/7 so stealing is not a problem.

We have a electric stapler and an industrial strength hole punch.
For security I have found the simplest of solutions. We coat both with ordi=
nary white out and in effect, "ugly up" them both. The students will use th=
em, but not take them. Our student workers are responsible for keeping them=
in working order. I just order new staples as needed.

When I started at the university 11 years ago, it was in coordinating labs =
for our biggest department. I was put on the task of supplying the labs wit=
h staplers and hole punches. This has been an on going battle now with the =
various system admins and the students. I think the students feel that they=
are entitled to staplers and hole punches.

The university has had nothing but issues keeping working equipment in the =
labs. We are now re-evaluating if this is something that we should continue=
to fight with or just tell the students that it is not a service we will c=
ontinue to support.

What does your university do? How do you deal with keeping staplers filled =
and in working condition or do you not have them available?

Thanks for your time.
