We have a electric stapler and an industrial strength hole punch.
For security I have found the simplest of solutions. We coat both with
ordinary white out and in effect, "ugly up" them both. The students will
use them, but not take them. Our student workers are responsible for
keeping them in working order. I just order new staples as needed.

Subject: Staplers and hole punches in the labs?
Sent by: Resnet Forum <RESNET-L@LISTSERV.ND.EDU>

When I started at the university 11 years ago, it was in coordinating labs
for our biggest department. I was put on the task of supplying the labs
with staplers and hole punches. This has been an on going battle now with
the various system admins and the students. I think the students feel that
they are entitled to staplers and hole punches.

The university has had nothing but issues keeping working equipment in the
labs. We are now re-evaluating if this is something that we should
continue to fight with or just tell the students that it is not a service
we will continue to support.

What does your university do? How do you deal with keeping staplers filled
and in working condition or do you not have them available?

Thanks for your time.
Margaret
