iPads fall under our new Mobile Communication Device policy, which
includes smartphones, PDA's, and tablets. Faculty and Staff usually want
their work email set up on these devices. Since these devices are smaller
and more easily lost/stolen we have our exchange server set security
policies on the device when it is attached. Through ActiveSync the
devices are required to have a 5 character unlock password that will
instill lockouts after several failed login attempts and eventually wipe
the device. With Blackberry, we require similar functions but they attach
to the Blackberry enterprise server. This improves data security greatly,
but unfortunately we had to start a chargeback model on departments and
individuals who wanted to participate. That part of it was highly
unpopular, but Blackberry server licenses aren't cheap and it is all a lot
to juggle.

As far as general iPad support, we bought a few to pass around so we would
understand them better. Our Faculty Commons has taught a few workshops in
how to use them and I have released a few podcasts.
