On behalf of our system admins:
We have been running VMware View 4.5 as a pilot for about 3 or 4 months
now and it have run into several problems. We use 5 WYSE terminals
(model P20's) and we have 5 Dell computers we have repurposed as VMware
View Clients. We have one pool with about 17 linked clone non persistent
Windows XP SP3 desktops. The main problem we are having is desktops will
time out during the customization process and will land in the "Errors"
folder under the "Problem Desktops" area within View Manager. We are not
sure if this is a Windows domain issue because right about the time when
we were setting up View we had consultants come in and help us upgrade
our Windows 2003 Active Directory to Windows 2008. We've tried just
about everything, turning off dynamic DNS from the virtual desktops,
switching over the NICs in the virtual desktops to use the VMXNET3
adapter, we have removed some errant DNS SRV records, upgraded the
firmware on the WYSE terminals etc..... The problems initially surfaced
when the end user tried to log into View Client and when it passed their
AD credentials to the virtual desktop it would get a Windows error that
their was a domain issue, we'd check in the event viewer logs of the
virtual desktop and see a bunch of entries for the machine's domain
account password not being updated. That error has pretty much gone
away, now once a week or so we'll see the customization operation timed
out issue. It is a lot more manageable now since the problem desktops
are not being made available, they are getting separated out into the
"problem desktops" -> "Error" folder.
