We did the jump from XP à Vista in 2007…that was fun ;-)

Last summer we settled on Windows 7 64-bit for all our labs, classrooms,
faculty, staff, and student ‘ThinkPad University’ optional laptop
program. Since all our machines come w/ a minimum of 4 GB of RAM,
64-bit makes sense. We’ve had no issues relating to the bitness, except
for very[, very] old legacy devices that don’t have 64-bit drivers –
typically scientific instruments and the like. All our lab printers
(mostly HP 4250 or newer) are fine w/ 64-bit. The move from Vista 32 to
7 64 was way easier than XP à Vista.

If you’re going from XP à 7, I suggest going directly to 64-bit 7.

Subject: Windows 7 64 bit anyone?

Is anyone running Windows 7 64 bit in their public labs or classroom?
Have you had any issues?
We are planning on upgrading our lab PCs from XP to Windows 7 but we are
debating 32 vs 64 bit. We have heard other campuses had issues with
printing using the 64bit OS.
