We monitor basics using WhatUpGold(WUG), and PRTG. The alerts go out
our mail server through the internet(2). We purchased a Comcast line
and hooked to another PC with WhatsUpGold on it so it would alert us if
mail or critical systems were down.
We also use the Comcast line for testing internet access to the college
when adjusting our internet appliances or investigating complaints of
access via internet.

Subject: Network Monitoring Solution

We are currently using IPmonitor to monitor our network devices (servers
and
switches). It is configured to send e-mails when devices do not reply
to ping
requests, and during non-business hours it sends text messages. SMS
with a
modem/POTS line seems to work reliably to Verizon phones, but does not
work
very well with AT&T (AT&T support has not been very helpful).

What are you using to monitor network devices (IPmonitor, Whats Up Gold,
etc.)
and why would you recommend it? Do you have any issues with SMS?
Is anyone sending SMS alerts to a Google Voice account?

Thanks
