I did read the newsletter and had meant to send a congratulatory note (both on the brand new newsletter -- great job! *and* on the name, which is more inclusive, and representative of the evolving nature of our business.) So, I'm sorry it's a little overdue in stating it, but I still think these are both positive things reflecting the dynamic nature of the organization and our institutions. Significantly, there is NO OTHER professional org out there (at least that I'm aware of, in North America), that represents the interests of students and their impact on technology in higher ed. How odd! (I have thought for years!) So, congratulations on making this switch which not only reflects why most of us choose to do the jobs we do (to serve students!), but will also server to differentiate the organization and I believe elevate its importance overall.

Best wishes for a bright future,

Dee

Sorry, ResNet...I thought I was replying to Mike Malsed only...didn't realize he'd sent that to the list.

I didn't mean to sound so succinct, promise!

The name change and some other exciting changes were announced in our first ever ResNet Newsletter. You can find the newsletter here: http://resnetsymposium.org/newsletter/2011-1.pdf

Please don't hesitate to direct questions and comments to any of your board members about the changes. And please be sure to consider what you can offer ResNet as a board member (see http://resnetsymposium.org/newsletter/Election2011.pdf).

Best regards,

Yes, it was made official with the newsletter that came out last week; there was an announcement there. Yale was OK with it, so we went with the change for this year.

I was checking out the wiki, looking for something or other, and noticed that the "Hosting Bid Planning" page had been changed on January 11 from "ResNet Symposium" to "Student Technology Conference".

I know we'd been discussing a name change, and it was a hot topic at the Town Hall at WWU, but I don't recall coming to any conclusions and I didn't see any announcements or further discussion.

Disclaimer - I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm not on the board, can't run for the board since we (Matt, Karmel and I) are hosting 2012 in Claremont (just before the end of the world, make sure to come!) so don't have a say in it.

I just thought there would be some more discussion or at least an announcement to the effect that the "ResNet Symposium" is now the "Student Technology Conference". . .

So - is this official? Are we now the "Student Technology Conference"?
