Although I work for Western Carolina University, I used to attend a Univer=
sity and work for them as a student employee that was very into the Leasing=
. They not only leased some of their core infrastructure but they were and=
I think still are one of the number one laptop leasing programs for a Univ=
ersity. They are worth talking to regarding the leasing versus buying as i=
t has worked out very well for them all around. The University is Winona S=
tate University in Winona, MN. Their CIO is Kenneth Janz and the gentleman=
that was involved from the beginning of their lease program is their Direc=
tor of Operations Dean Feller.

First of all happy holidays to all!!!
We are in the need of upgrading some of our core infrastructure and are sta=
rting to rice it out. I was wondering if most schools own their own equipm=
ent or lease. Traditionally we own and then have core equipment in place u=
ntil EOL or sometimes even longer. I would like to refresh more often and =
even though, I think over time the cost would be more to lease, it would be=
easier to stay up to date because we wouldn't need to find huge initial co=
sts. As an example we need to update/replace our core switches, firewalls =
and SAN/virtual infrastructure.
