My understanding is that the software is even more broken on a DecStation.
I have the same impression.
Personally, I'd rther see people using ftp than the translator,
especially if they're using it for read-write access. If it's for
read-only access, there's a possibility of a SIPB-supported software
workaround that I'm investigating, especially if it's world-read-only
(no authentication at all)
SIPB has talked about perhaps running a translator before, and it was
the feeling of some people (me, and I think so others) that it
wouldn't be a good idea, mainly because:
a) it would lose, eventually.
b) we wouldn't be able to fix it.
c) we would be encouraging behavior that we want to discourage
d) it would take hardware we didn't have (solvable) and admin effort
that might be better spent on other things.
Honestly, I don't think you want the translator.
(Keep in mind this is me speaking for me not Ops...I really don't know what
went into this decision)

reached a `real' decision, I don't think.)
