I don't think this has come up yet, but is there any chance that MIT
could set up an (kerberized) AFS/NFS translator for the resnet people?
Even with the buggy software and slow speed, the translator makes life
much easier for the Linux folks who have everything local except some
files. Otherwise file transfer consists of constantly ftp-ing over
already hosed dialups and ftp machines.
ni is a DEC 3100, so it doesn't seem unreasonable for (insert whoever
pays for this sort of thing here) to set another translator up. It
really doesn't seem like a huge financial burden, especially in light of
what has already been invested in dorms and ILGs on resnet.
I'd even suggest snagging one of the dialups for this purpose, but
that's only because I don't use them any more.
