That's 10-base-T, which for all practical purposes is glorified phone
wire, also known as UTP (unshielded twisted pair). The "OFFICIAL
RECOMMENDED RESNET ETHERNET CARD" is the Allied Telesis 1700. I
have been using the 3C509 card, myself, with Linux, DOS, and Windows,
and I have had minimal problems. If you can easily get a '509, I
suggest it. Several others I know of on resnet also use the card
and I have heard few complaints. This is not the case with the
AT1700 (especially with Linux).
