It seems it will not work on a 100 only network. It should
work fine in a 10/100 auto negotiated environment.

I agree. I love the thing. When I did the network tester demo
at ResNet 2000 it was my favorite. When I came back I ordered 10 more. :)
I don't think the in-line feature is worth the money. You do get
50 free trails on the regular NetTool, though, and we have yet to use them up.
We also received really good pricing ($823 each) from http://www.softwareone.com/.
(Our purchasing department actually contacted them, I'm not sure if they still
carry Fluke products)
I'm intrigued by the Pinger. I like the ability to receive DHCP leases
and to ping from a tester, something that NetTool lacks. Our aging Microtest
(now, bought by Fluke) has DHCP and ping capability but it costs $2500 and doesn't
play well in a 10/100 network. I doubt fluke has plans to upgrade it to a 10/100
device. $350 for the Pinger sounds like a great value.
Any tester you can give your "RTAs" makes them more productive and lowers
their frustration at a problem they may or may not be able to resolve themselves.
