We did auto-rrm for many many years. I've become a firm believer in
manually assigning channel & power levels. We're now doing so across
the board. I was 80% convinced before watching some excellent
presentations along this line at the WLPC in Phoenix recently.

We use Aerohive, and while they have auto-rrm features, we now disable
them. We recently baked off Aruba, and were impressed with their ARM
capabilities. Probably more sophisticated than Aerohive's offering.
But at the end of the day, I'd rather take the time up front to come
up with a "known good" channel plan. You're right that this means your
RF environment can't adapt to changes. We have not found this to be a
problem.

I've found that a good channel / RF plan can remove the need to rely
on magical vendor features (auto-rrm, load balancing, band steering,
etc) that can be hard to troubleshoot and fix when they begin
misbehaving.
