Carleton did this a few years ago.

We bought some Axis cameras, rigged up some mounts on the adjacent building roofs, ran a single Cat5E to the nearest PoE switch, and threw the results up on a webpage. All told, I think we spent 3x$600 on the cameras, and about $500 to wire them up.

It worked well enough for 2010. We haven't looked at doing it again, but we may, as we have a few new projects coming up.

Subject: Construction Camera

I have been asked to install a camera to view the construction of a new residence hall. Has anyone weighed the pros and cons of doing this in-house versus hiring a company to provide a turnkey solution.

Does anyone have any financials that they would like to share? Camera, software, or hardware recommendations?

Thanks,

Douglas
