Charging for Laserprinting

At San Francisco State we have opened unattended labs with
dot-matrix only printers. We are planning on installing laserprinters, but
since our labs are unattended, and we have somewhat agressive users, we
plan to install the printers at the front desks of each building.
In order to curb potential abuse, and take up a lot of time with front desk
staff, we want to implement a card-reader device on the printers, which
would deduct a specific amount per page from their card balance.
If you have any information regarding vendor recommendations (or NOT
recommended) this would be very helpful.
We need to keep this as low cost as possible, so I doubt we'll be able to
purchase dedicated print servers.
