As Berklee is close to 100% OS X client machines, we have been using JAMF's Casper Suite to manage our institutional machines since 2010 both for pushing applications and prefs as well as self-service use by users, and have been quite pleased with the suite.
For our students (we have a Mac 1-to-1 program so all 4,000 students own a laptop) we began delivering applications to students using a second JAMF instance and using JAMF Self-Service starting this past May. Students can download ten application installers totaling about 20GB, on- or off-campus. We are pleased so far but continue to closely monitor this service.
