Hi Larry,

That's great to hear! Thanks for the feedback! Does your network manager know offhand about what CPU Usage % your 6509 is at under "normal" usage and during the registration process?

Would you mind if Chuck or myself contacted you off list with any more questions we or our networking team may have?

Hi Chuck,
	I asked our main network manager about it, he replied:
" Our setup is very close to this, we don't have the XL sup and we have 4 WiSM's instead of 3 (and no FWM) . It sounds like the Resnet population is close to ours as well. You are probably the best person to speak operationally about how SC works under these conditions. From a pure networking performance perspective it sounds like what they have will work fine (assuming the CPU & memory are fine today)."

Speaking for myself at the ResNet Office, our setup works pretty well, even during move-in. We have about 6000 students in Residence Halls and will probably be using SafeConnect for all our access control by next Fall.

Subject: Impule Point and a Cisco 6509?

Aloha everyone, and Happy New Year!

We are in the process of evaluating Impulse Point's Safe Connect as a ResNet NAC solution for UCSD. One of the last concerns our network engineers have is how our single Cisco 6509 would handle the load, particularly during Move In Weekend when we have the potential for hundreds of simultaneous registrations.

Do any of you who are using Impulse Point have an environment similar to the following, going through a single 6509 (details of the 6509 below)? And if so, would you contact me off list so I could set up some type of communication with our network engineers?

* Approximately 10K students
* move in dates spread over 4-5 days
* The Resnet 6509 is a Catalyst 6509-E with a VS-720-10G-3CXL Supervisor Engine that's also running a Firewall Services Module (FWM-1), and 3 Wireless Service Modules (WISM-1). Additionally, we're piping ISP bound traffic through a Cisco SCE that's attached with a 2GE ether-channel.

Thanks so much!
