We actually used to use CompuTrace and stopped. I don't believe we actually=
recovered any computers that were lost or stolen.
Instead, we now use full disk encryption from McAfee. On all laptops that m=
ight possibly hold any sensitive data. We care more about the information t=
han the machine itself.

We haven't implemented anything yet, but one of the products we are looking=
at in addition to computrace is Prey (preyproject.com).

For the last six years, we used the CyberAngel<http://www.thecyberangel.com=
/> software solution on our campus for all university-owned laptops. The co=
mpany is about to permanently shut its doors by the end of this year, so we=
=92re looking for a replacement solution.
The features that would most interest me are:
=B7 Online tracking of laptop(s) on a map in real-time
=B7 Ability to send an alert message to the laptop=92s screen
=B7 Remotely lock and/or disable access to a misplaced/lost/stolen =
laptop
=B7 Secondary password verification at login screen
=B7 Email notification to a specified email address (upon incorrect=
login at secondary password verification)
Some of the above features will be instantly recognizable to users of iPhon=
es, iPads and Macs since Apple offers them as part of its iCloud service. M=
ost of our laptops are Windows-based so that nixes using Apple=92s service =
on those of course.
I=92m curious to know what solution others are using in this regard. What a=
re the pros and cons to your implemented solution? Any additional features =
(to the ones I listed above) in your implemented solution?
