Some recent experience from Penn:
* We built the EIA/TIA 568 wiring standard into our wiring RFP. EIA/TIA
568 is more than Category 5 cable; it includes bending radii on cable
runs, maintaining twist on punch down, et al.
* In spring 1993, many of our regular wiring contractors could not
qualify, by demonstrating a large project done to this standard. When we
bid ResNet phase 2 this spring, many contractors were up to speed.
* We require that our wiring contractors test the installations for 100
Mbps, even though our initial use will be at 10 Mbps.
* We're being advised to be optimistic that these installations will
support 155 Mbps when needed.
I'll try to get the relevant sections of our RFP into Penn's Web server,
which is referenced by Stanford's resnet web server. Check next week.
Regards,
Dan
