Student installations

We distribute disks to the students and "Quick Start" handouts which
give the basics on how to install the various pieces of software.
After this, the students attempt to install the software themselves,
with an option to phone our office if they need assistance. So far
(this is our first year and not too many students have signed up for
the service), students haven't had any trouble installing the software,
although they have phoned us occasionally with various configuration
problems which could generally be traced to bugs in software or, in
one case, an error in our handouts.
However, I should note that this service is very new and must be paid
for by the students, so it's quite likely that it's only somewhat
computer-savvy students who have signed up so far.
