A quick news item. No doubt we'll be hearing a great deal more about
this. An AP story on the wire now,

reports on James Harrison's fatal shooting of his five children (and
killing himself) in Washington state, apparently after using cell
phone GPS to discover his wife with another man, with whom she
intended to remain.
While the major focus of this story is and obviously should be the
tragedy surrounding these deaths, the GPS aspect seems definitely
noteworthy.
There are a number of important questions to be asked in this respect,
among the most important of which are whether or not the woman
realized that her location was trackable in real-time in this manner,
whether or not she herself had explicitly approved tracking data
release, and so on. No details are available yet regarding the
GPS-related issues.
GPS is a powerful tool for positive purposes, but it carries a variety
of related risks as well, unfortunately even potentially fatal ones in
extreme cases.
