I think the amendments would accomplish that... They do need to be
separate, as Rachel indicated, because one is a "whereas" statement (the
committee fulfilled its charge) and one is a "that" statement (it now passes
all dining issues over to the Dining Committee).

This is another thing I hope will go straight to a vote (after Rachel's
amendments). Discussion about what DPC did, or whether you think they did a
good job, isn't really relevant; they were charged to produce a
comprehensive report, and they did that. The chair has graduated, so even
if you wanted to keep this committee alive for some strange reason, you
couldn't do it just by voting this bill down.

Hey everyone,<br>
<br>
I just wanted to start some threads about the various pieces of legislation=
 I<br>
wrote so we can try to get some questions resolved before tonight. =A0Sorry=
 for<br>
not doing this sooner - I&#39;ve been sick.<br>
<br>
For 41 U.A.S. 5.3 Dissolving the Ad-Hoc Dining Proposal Committee, bill at:=
<br>
<a href=3D"http://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/UAS41/5/3/.pdf" target=3D"_blank">h=
ttp://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/UAS41/5/3/.pdf</a><br>
<br>
Basically, the committee was created with a specific short term goal and it=
<br>
completed that goal, so now it can be dissolved.<br>
<br>
<br>
A couple of things I would like to change/add to the bill to help clarify:<=
br>
<br>
The bill references 40 UAS 8.1, that could be found here:<br>
<a href=3D"http://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/UAS40/passed/40%20UAS%208.1%20Bill%=
20to%20Create%20the%20Dining%20Proposal%20Committee.pdf" target=3D"_blank">=
http://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/UAS40/passed/40%20UAS%208.1%20Bill%20to%20Crea=
te%20the%20Dining%20Proposal%20Committee.pdf</a><br>

<br>
I would like to emphasize that the committee was given a specific task and =
has<br>
completed it&#39;s job successfully, so now it is unnecessary - not that it=
 is just<br>
useless or didn&#39;t have a purpose originally.<br>
<br>
To convey that in the bill, I would like to add a whereas clause (between t=
he<br>
second and third clauses) to read:<br>
&quot;Whereas 40 U.A.S. 8.1 tasked DPC to examine the current dining system=
 and<br>
recommend a comprehensive program that meets the needs of the MIT community=
 and<br>
write a report on their findings&quot;<br>
<br>
and amend the current third clause to read:<br>
&quot;Whereas DPC completed this task when its final report was approved by=
 Senate<br>
with 40 U.A.S. E2.1 on May 4, 2009&quot;<br>
<br>
<br>
Additionally, I would like to make it clear that any further actions or tas=
k<br>
regarding DPC&#39;s purpose should be assumed by the standing committee on =
dining.<br>
I think this is the rough assumption that&#39;s been made by those involved=
 and to<br>
express this I would like to add a third that clause:<br>
&quot;That any remaining responsibilities and all authority of the ad-hoc D=
ining<br>
Proposal Committee be transferred to the standing UA Committee on Dining.&q=
uot;<br>
<br>
<br>
Due to to late timing, I will move to make these amendments after presentin=
g the<br>
bill instead of changing the bill now.<br>
<br>
<br>
Please discuss any concerns or issues with the bill or the proposed amendme=
nts.<br>
<br>
<br>
Thanks,<br>
