Hey everyone,

I just wanted to start some threads about the various pieces of legislation I
wrote so we can try to get some questions resolved before tonight. Sorry for
not doing this sooner - I've been sick.

For 41 U.A.S. 5.3 Dissolving the Ad-Hoc Dining Proposal Committee, bill at:
http://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/UAS41/5/3/.pdf

Basically, the committee was created with a specific short term goal and it
completed that goal, so now it can be dissolved.

A couple of things I would like to change/add to the bill to help clarify:

The bill references 40 UAS 8.1, that could be found here:
http://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/UAS40/passed/40%20UAS%208.1%20Bill%20to%20Create%20the%20Dining%20Proposal%20Committee.pdf

I would like to emphasize that the committee was given a specific task and has
completed it's job successfully, so now it is unnecessary - not that it is just
useless or didn't have a purpose originally.

To convey that in the bill, I would like to add a whereas clause (between the
second and third clauses) to read:
"Whereas 40 U.A.S. 8.1 tasked DPC to examine the current dining system and
recommend a comprehensive program that meets the needs of the MIT community and
write a report on their findings"

and amend the current third clause to read:
"Whereas DPC completed this task when its final report was approved by Senate
with 40 U.A.S. E2.1 on May 4, 2009"

Additionally, I would like to make it clear that any further actions or task
regarding DPC's purpose should be assumed by the standing committee on dining.
I think this is the rough assumption that's been made by those involved and to
express this I would like to add a third that clause:
"That any remaining responsibilities and all authority of the ad-hoc Dining
Proposal Committee be transferred to the standing UA Committee on Dining."

Due to to late timing, I will move to make these amendments after presenting the
bill instead of changing the bill now.

Please discuss any concerns or issues with the bill or the proposed amendments.

Thanks,
Rachel
