Hi everyone,
Turns out there will be a few official opportunities to give in-person
feedback on the Institute-Wide Planning Task Force's report. Thought I
should pass it along.

Best,
Paul

P.S. I'd expect that this will hit the undergrads@mit.edu list eventually,
but apparently Bennie has the flu, so...that might be a while.

 Dear Friends,

Below is information about an opportunity for members of the community to
learn about and discuss the Preliminary Report of the Institute-wide
Planning Task Force. We encourage you to share this broadly with any
faculty, students, and staff that might be interested in attending.

=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85.................

To Members of the MIT Community:

You are invited to attend an upcoming forum to discuss the Preliminary
Report of the Institute-wide Planning Task Force. To ensure as many people
as possible have the opportunity to attend, the forum will be held twice:

*=B7** **Thursday, September 17, 5:00 PM =96 6:30 PM, Room 10-250***

*=B7** **Monday, September 21, 4:00 PM =96 5:30 PM, Room 32-155*

Please visit [http://web.mit.edu/instituteplanning/forum.html] for more
information.

Since February 2009, approximately 200 faculty, students, and staff on the
Task Force have creatively explored new ways of promoting our historic
excellence in teaching and research, while preserving MIT=92s financial
stability. A preliminary report was shared with the Institute community las=
t
month which included a full accounting of the 200+ ideas conceived of by th=
e
Task Force, and a set of recommendations for moving forward and acting on
the ideas. The preliminary report is available online by logging into the
MIT Idea Bank [ideabank.mit.edu].

While some of the Task Force=92s ideas are sufficiently developed and will =
be
implemented early this fall, others will take months or years to evaluate
and require extensive consultation with the many faculty, student, and staf=
f
committees that are the foundation of the Institute=92s culture of shared
governance. Recognizing that the work to sculpt a stronger MIT will require
collective wisdom and collaborative action, we encourage you to attend the
forum to learn more and ask questions.

Following a period of community feedback, a final report will be released
later this fall.

Sincerely,

The Institute-wide Planning Task Force (*co-sponsor*)

Thomas A. Kochan, Chair of the Faculty (*co-sponsor*)
