The netBeans Java IDE has been installed on Athena for Sun and Linux
machines. Sun is implying that netBeans is the upgrade path to FORTE
for Java Community Edition, and that new releases of the latter will
no longer be available.

netBeans is configured to use the "current" default JDK version on
Athena. At the moment this is 1.4.1, but this will be updated to 1.4.2
in the near future.

To run it, type:

        add netbeans
        netbeans

at the Athena prompt.

On first launch netBeans will offer an option to use existing
configuration files to apply settings; it can use settings in FORTE
for Java; if you have used this recently, configuration settings will
be in $HOME/ffjuser40ce and you can tell netBeans to import them from
there. If you haven't or don't want to use those, you can decline the
offer to import settings and netBeans will use its own defaults.
