a patch has just been applied to Mosaic-2.4 that
enables Mosaic to recognize fonts from different languages
(including Chinese-big, Chinese-gb, Kanji, koi, and many others).
this patch has been applied to Mosaic in the
following platforms:
sun4
rsaix
decmips
How to use:
in the options menu, two new settings are available,
the bidirectionality control, and the language font set.
It should be intuitive to use, and to try it out, here
are a few URL's with foreign language documents:
Japanese (the default font set): http://www.ntt.jp/index-j.html
Chinese (GB): ftp://ifcss.org/cnd/hxwz
There are many others, some of which can be followed
from the Human Languages Project Page
http://www.willamette.edu/~tjones/Language-Page.html
NOTE:
a) The Change will not take effect until tommorow,
when the sipb volume will be released.
b) The fonts are not in the X-server, and have to
be loaded when required. If it feels like your
Xserver is hanging (with the rest of your machine)
for about fifteen seconds, it is probably loading
a new fontset, which only needs to be done once per
login.
