I've installed the DjVuLibre library and tools in the "djvu" locker
for sun and linux. DjVuLibre (pronounced "deja vu libre") is a GPLed
toolset for encoding, decoding, and manipulating DjVu files. DjVu is
an image file format which, among other things, supports:
- high compression ratios for bitmaps of scanned text
- comparable-to-jpeg compression for full-color photos
- good compression for indexed-color images such as screen captures
- composition of images via masked layers with different encodings
- multiple-page images
- interactive retrieval of image regions at adjustable resolution
DjVu is very good at compressing scanned pages containing text, diagrams,
symbols, and images.
To run the command line tools, you must first type "add djvu".
Encoding tools are: bzz, c44, cjb2, cpaldjvu, csepdjvu.
Decoding tools are: ddjvu, djvups.
Manipulation tools are: djvm, djvmcvt, djvudump, djvuextract, djvumake,
djvused, djvuserve, djvutxt.
Read the manual for a command by typing "add djvu ; man <command>".
The DjVuLibre web page is http://djvu.sourceforge.net/index.html .
DjVu is currently commercially developed by LizardTech, which acquired
the technology from AT&T. Their DjVu web page is
http://lizardtech.com/products/djvu.html
