I've updated the installation of LyX, the graphical word
processing program based on LaTeX, in the outland locker, to version
1.0.0 prerelease 6.
This introduces several new features to LyX, most importantly
the ability to import preexisting LaTeX 2e files into LyX. LyX is
available for Solaris, Irix, Linux, and NetBSD. To run Lyx, type:
add outland
lyx &
Somewhat terse man pages for both LyX and reLyX (the LaTeX to LyX
conversion utility) are available as well:
add outland
man lyx
man relyx
Better documentation is available from LyX's internal help, which
includes a tutorial. More information about LyX is available at:
http://www.lyx.org
I should probably also announce another package, since I forgot
to announce it earlier. I've installed xmcd 2.4 in the outland
locker. For those who don't know, xmcd is a Motif based audio cdrom
player. This new version of xmcd provides better support for the ATAPI
cdrom drives on the Ultra 10's, and is equipped with a wrapper script to
prevent system crashes if it is started under Solaris when vold is not
running. It's currently available for Solaris, Linux, and NetBSD. To
run the new release of xmcd, type:
add outland
xmcd-beta &
A man page exists as well:
add outland
man xmcd-beta
Being software in the outland locker, neither of these packages
come with any warranty, express or implied. Your mileage may vary.
However, if any problems or bugs are discovered, please report them to
bug-outland@mit.edu.
