I've updated VMD on Athena to 1.8.6 for Linux and Sun. VMD is an application
designed for the visualization and analysis of biological systems such
as proteins, nucleic acids, lipid bilayer assemblies etc. It can also
view more general molecules in standard representations (such as pdb
and other standard molecular description files). It provides a wide
variety of methods for visualizing and rendering molecules, and can
also be used to animate and analyze the trajectory of molecular
dynamics simulations. To run it now:

        add vmd
        vmd -ver 1.8.6

There are pdf manuals and tutorials starting from
http://web.mit.edu/vmd_v1.8.6. Files used by the vmd-tutorial.pdf tutorial
are below /mit/vmd_v1.8.6/distrib/vmd-1.8.6/vmd-tutorial-files. Additional
information and release notes can be found by using the Help menu; it will
launch firefox on various URLs at the author site.

I plan to make this version the default in a few weeks, after the end
of the current semester.

                                           Alex
