I've installed Open Office 2.1 on Athena. From my message to users:
Open Office 2.1 has been installed on Athena and is now available for
Sun and Linux. To run it now:
ooffice -ver 2.1 &
We expect to make it (or a newer release) the default during IAP 2007.
In the default configuration, it uses the same local configuration
directory structure used by prior 2.x versions, an architecture-specific
tree for Sun or Linux pointed to by a ~/.openoffice.org2 symlink.
However, we are trying out a new, optional single local configuration
directory that makes ~/.openoffice.org2 a real directory common to
both platforms. You will need to perform extra steps to use this
configuration if you wish to try it. There are advantages to doing
this but also some risks- please read file
/mit/ooffice_v2.1/README.local-configuration at the top of the
ooffice_v2.1 locker for details. Unless you feel strongly about the
benefits that this offers, you are advised to stick with the default
configuration.
