I've installed Electric VLSI on Athena. Electric VLSI is a VLSI
circuit design and simulation application written in Java that
incorporates many features and optional add-ons. Design features
include custom IC layout (ASICs), schematic drawing and hardware
description language specifications. There is online help, and a
pdf copy of the user manual in file ElectricManual-8.04.pdf at the
top level of the electric_v8.04 locker. To run it:

electric
Electric is complex and you will most likely need to work through the tutorials
in the manual and others on the Web to become proficient at using it. There
is a large design example in the /mit/electric_v8.04/distrib/example directory.
Electric VLSI has recently been ported to Java and there are some
rough edges- for example, the print command doesn't currently work on
UNIX platforms (there is a workaround; see file
/mit/electric_v8.04/README.athena for more information).
However, it is under rapid development and the authors are responsive
to bug reports. It already has a rich feature set and more are planned.
