Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake ISOs are now available from
/afs/sipb.mit.edu/contrib/ubuntu/ubuntu-6.06-dapper-drake
Desktop CDs (live CD with the ability to install from the CD), Alternate
Install CDs (more customizable installs), and Server Install CDs are all
available for the x86, PowerPC, and AMD64 architectures.
From the Ubuntu web site (http://www.ubuntu.com/):
Ubuntu is a free, open source operating system that starts with the
breadth of Debian and adds regular releases (every six months), a clear
focus on the user and usability (it should "Just Work", TM) and a
commitment to security updates with 18 months of support for every
release. Ubuntu ships with the latest Gnome release as well as a selection
of server and desktop software that makes for a comfortable desktop
experience off a single installation CD.
As with Debian, Ubuntu can run many Athena services, such as Kerberos,
AFS, zephyr, and printing. Instructions on how to configure Ubuntu to do
so are available from
