I've updated the Open Office office suite on Athena to 2.0 for Sun and Linux.
From my message to users:
Open Office 2.0 has been installed on Athena and is now available for
Sun and Linux. To run it now:
add ooffice
ooffice -ver 2.0 &
We expect to make it the default version during IAP 2006.
The first time you run it, it will create a local configuration
directory below ~/.openoffice.org2 in your home directory (actually, an
architecture-specific tree pointed to by a ~/.openoffice.org2 symlink) that
contains about 2.2 meg of configuration files. This configuration
directory is distinct from that used for older Open Office releases
(and Star Office 8.0, which is very similar to Open Office 2 and which
has also just been installed on Athena). Open Office 2 documents should be
fully compatible with Star Office 8.0 documents.
Please see file /afs/athena/software/ooffice_v2.0/README.athena for
additional important information. Please note that we are now using
the vendor's local configuration installer, which will require you to
conduct a brief initialization dialog. You will need to do this twice
if you work on both Sun and Linux machines. Autosave every 15 min, is
on by default- autosaves are in the ~/.openoffice.org2/user/backup directory.
Automatic backups are not enabled by default- if you want these you need
to turn them via Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> General, in the Save
section.
