I've installed "skill" in the Sipb locker, a program to kill processes
by name. (It's the same idea as "punt" in the consult locker, but it
works significantly better.)
Features include: It can send any signal to the process, it can find
processes by name, user, and/or tty, and it generally does a good job
of finding the process.
It's installed for Sun, SGI, RS6k, and Linux. (I plan to port it to
the NetBSD /proc filesystem. I also plan to modify the front-end so
it can just output the process id without sending it a signal, so it
can replace "pid" in the consult locker.)
Bug reports to bug-sipb@mit.edu.
Enjoy.
