So, no one has answered your request. I'll say a few things which
aren't necessarily very helpful:
* Traditional ways to become an AFS maintainer have included
being the chairman (me, Yonah, Kretch), giving (not getting)
an AFS clue dump (some old cruft, and maybe Jered if he gets
around to it), and being demonstrably AFS-clueful in the
eyes of an existing maintainer (Sam, Karl).
* Your reasons for wanting bits are clearly okay (stuff about
setuid bits in particular), but I dunno if that's enough.
* I'm starting to form the opinion that service maintainers
who are students should generally make these kinds of policy
decisions, but I don't know if I can justify that.
