   If we do this we should make sure the case is well labeled as having a
   flakey SCSI id selector.  (Actually, I suspect that the sleector just
   isn't all plugged in.

Jonathon is probably right here.  We often get disks from vendors (ADS and
others) where the jumpers for the leds or SCSI selector are loose.  It should
be pretty obvious if that is the case here if you open the disk up.
